Invitation to the WFHSS and SOBECC Conference 2010

It is a pleasure to invite you to the 11th World Congress for sterilization which will take place from 30 July to 1 August 2010 in Sao Paolo, Brazil. It is organized by SOBECC, in close co-operation with the WFHSS. Once again this congress is a historical event because we are once more pushing back our frontiers. It is indeed actually the first time that this congress will take place outside of Europe. This proves that sterilization has truly become globalized.

The main objectives of the congress are to build bridges between North and South and between East and West and to prepare the road for a global sterilization practice.

For these reasons we have invited a number of prominent experts from all continents to address the participants about their areas of expertise. The ensuing exchange of ideas should lead to an evidence based best practice with standardization and innovation as the key concepts. Standardization has to ensure that the sterilization processes are run efficiently and safely, innovation that the CSSD adapts technologically, ecologically and economically to an ever changing hospital environment.

I trust that all of you, members of staff in CSSDs and in companies, will make this congress into the meeting place of the global sterilization world. This is also an ideal opportunity to experience for yourself the warm welcome Brazil extends to its visitors and the friendly hospitality of SOBECC.

See you in Sao Paolo!

SOBECC Conference Report

A Congress to Stay in History

The 11th World Wide Sterilization Congress (Congresso Mundial de Esterilização, in Portuguese) and 7th International Symposium of Sterilization and Hospital Infection Control (Simpósio Internacional de Esterilização e Controle de Infecção Hospitalar, in Portuguese) carried out between July 30th and August 1st, at Anhembi Covenant Palace (Palácio de Convenções), in São Paulo, was a landmark for Sobecc Nacional and for the World Wide Sterilization Forum, for the organizers, and for about 3 thousand participants, and 70 exhibition companies. The results have overcome the expectations in all meanings. More than 6 thousand people have been in the event through the four days. The great number of inscriptions also foresees the dimension of the congress. The result was it. The high quality scientific schedule caught the attention of health professionals all over Brazil and in more than 38 countries. By the rooms and auditoriums of Anhembi Covenant Palace, 34 lecturers have passed, from which 21 were foreigners. Researchers, studious, and renewed professionals from hospital centers of several parts in the world, such as the immunologist doctor, Antonio Tadeu Fernandes, who has opened the lectures cycle, emphasized the importance of educational and technological improvement programs of the services and assistance rendered to the patient, besides presenting news related to sterilization and other involved areas associated with biosecurity. “Without doubts, this is a unique opportunity of the career’s recycling and improvement.” This was the definition by several participants.

Lightheartedness in the Get-together Dinner

A big meeting like the 11th World Wide Sterilization Congress and 7th International Symposium of Sterilization and Hospital Infection Control could not impact without a great get-together. On Saturday night, July 31st, a dinner happened in the hall of Anhembi Covenant Palace and joined more than 1,200 people. The lightheartedness atmosphere dominated the event from the beginning to the end. Many participants elaborated a very good typical appearance from their regions, both from Brazil and foreign countries. In the party’s reception, a cheered team led by Sobecc Nacional’s president, Janete Akamine, received the guests with warm applauses and whistles. In the saloon, a band called Virada do Século made everybody dance with a very live musical repertory and funny performances. In order to end the night with golden standard, the drum of Mocidade Alegre, which is a samba school, let the public go crazy, especially foreigners, who are always enchanted by the Brazilian swing.

In 2011, a meeting of professionals from the Surgical Center, Anesthetic Recovery, and Sterilization and Material Center

On August 1st, Sunday, the president of Sobecc Nacional, Janete Akamine, concluded the 11th World Wide Sterilization Congress and 7th International Symposium of Sterilization and Hospital Infection Control with a speech thanking participants, lecturers, exhibition companies, and professionals that, behind the scenes, helped to carry out the event. Janete Akamine has invited everybody to the 10th Brazilian Congress of Nursery in Surgical Center, Anesthetic Recovery, and Sterilization and Material Center (10º Congresso Brasileiro de Enfermagem em Centro Cirúrgico, Recuperação Anestésica e Centro de Material e Esterilização), which will take place from July 28 to July 31, 2010, in Anhembi Covenant Palace. The president of Associação Portuguesa de Esterilização, Fatima Contente, also orated in the closing, announcing that in 2011 the 12th World Wide Forum of Sterilization will happen in Portugal. Fatima raffled off two inscriptions for the event. The winners were two Brazilian women: Ivete Rodrigues Oyana, from São Paulo, and Daniele Rodrigues Fonseca, from Manaus, in the state of Amazonas. The president declared to be really happy by the inscriptions being raffled off to "Brazilian brothers". Sobecc Nacional also made the raffle of several prizes and started preparing for 2011 Brazilian Congress.

News in the Technological Exhibition

The technological exhibition that happened inside the schedule from the 11th World Wide Sterilization Congress and 7th International Symposium of Sterilization and Hospital Infection Control caught the attention from the participants. The 70 exhibitors companies helped to enrich the event with products, services, and high quality technology for health professionals every day. Movement in the stands has overcome expectations. For being captivated by news, visitors also took part in several raffles and mock campaigns. Some companies have promoted the symposiums-satellites with themes that created big interest among congress men.

Prizes’ Winners of the Free Themes in Poster Category

With 157 chosen themes, the posters exhibition enriched the atmosphere from 11th World Wide Sterilization Congress and 7th International Symposium of Sterilization and Hospital Infection Control. Authors presented useful ideas, suggestions, and procedures for the health professionals every day. In the event's closing, three winners were announced. The 1st place was for: Larissa Garcia Niehues Moresca, Cibele Cristina Tramontini, and Ligia Fahl Fonseca with the theme "Evaluation of the speed and reliability indices of the dressing and micronebulizator kit reprocessed in a material and sterilization center"; the 2nd place was for Lirian Mitiko Sagara, Maria Carolina Armelin Patorinti, Simone Garcia Lopes, and Maria Elisa Ravagnani Gonçalves Ramos with the subject "Appearance Operation Scheme of the cleaning routines from material and sterilization center"; and the 3rd place was for Sandro Herbe Nunes, Jones Soares Oliveira, and Solange Machado Guimarães with the theme "Prototype with informative database (PDBI) for the material and sterilization central manage surgical kits".
